An environmentally responsible barn in Accoya

At Barneveld, in the Netherlands, an old barn has been turned into an environmentally responsible home, a genuine manifesto for bio-based construction. Designed by Architectuurstudio Haver and built by the company Bouwbedrijf van Wolfswinkel, with engineering by Gravitas and joinery by Trahus, the project marries sustainability with modern design. The window frames were made in Accoya, while the external doors use the Tricoya panel. A clear Ecotec woodstain preserves the natural tone of the wood, which will thus withstand ageing while keeping its warm appearance. The joinery was supplied by Van Beek kozijnen of Lunteren. The project is an inspiring illustration of how bio-based materials, long-term performance and good looks can go together: the house stands out as much for its clean design as for its respect for nature and the environment.
