College of Forestry at Oregon State University

In Oregon, in the United States, the agroforestry university wanted to show, as it extended its campus, that timber can be used for very large high-performance buildings. Two buildings were designed by the Michael Green practice: a 7,500 m² teaching building on three floors, housing classrooms, offices and laboratories, and a 1,500 m² wood research centre. The first combines glass and Accoya cladding on a cross-laminated timber structure made by D.R. Johnson; the second, also clad in Accoya, is the first large-scale use of the “Mass Plywood” concept. It is the largest mass timber project in North America. Before specifying Accoya, chosen for its very high durability, the contractor Andersen Construction visited the production plant and several completed projects in the Netherlands.
