French-style garden with Kebony terrace, Drammen

In Drammen, Norway, interior designer Eva Klokkerud has created an outdoor space where the French garden tradition meets Scandinavian architecture. The result is a garden structured by clear lines, calm material surfaces and zones usable throughout the season.

The setting is a fully renovated 1895 house, whose character the outdoor design extends. The garden is organised through balance, symmetry and a sequence of green rooms that provide both structure and calm.

At its centre, a four by eight metre pool is surrounded by a Kebony Character terrace. The timber connects house, water and planting, and carries the transition between architecture and landscape. The terrace accommodates several zones for dining, relaxing and gathering. Kebony Character was chosen for its natural expression, durability and low maintenance; it has developed a silver-grey patina consistent with the garden's classical language.
