Inn at Harbor Shores Marina, St. Joseph

The marina at Harbor Shores in St. Joseph, Michigan, has sixty-eight seasonal docks decked in Kebony Clear boardwalk boards. The docks range from 35 to 40 feet in length, and broadside berthing can take transient vessels of up to 200 feet.

The designer and developer, Edgewater Resources, wanted a marina that would be attractive but also strong enough to withstand the harsh weather of the Great Lakes coast.

Greg Weykamp, principal at Edgewater, says his practice has designed more than three hundred marinas worldwide using nearly every decking material available, and ranks Kebony among the best. He reports that after two years in service on a public boardwalk and marina south of Chicago, not a single board had needed replacing, against a recent 1,000-slip treated pine marina where five per cent of boards had to be replaced within six months.
