Replacing the lining of the Diepe Dolte canal

In the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, in the Netherlands, the lining of the Diepe Dolte canal at Workum was replaced with H2H hybrid panels, developed and supplied by Van Swaay Duurzaam Hout. In all, 120 linear metres of Accoya wood were installed on this flood defence structure. Each plank, around five metres long, six centimetres thick and twenty centimetres wide, combines two species: the lower part, kept below the waterline, is in untreated spruce, while the upper part, exposed to the critical air/water zone, is in durability class 1 Accoya. This innovative solution carries a 25-year guarantee for applications in contact with soil and fresh water. The municipality, which sets out to be innovative and sustainable, chose this pilot dyke wall to test the longevity of modified wood in hydraulic engineering works.
