Short Mountain House – a mountain home by Delta Millworks

Short Mountain House is a private residence at Maryville, in Tennessee, with a sweeping view over Great Smoky Mountains National Park. To clad this contemporary mountain home, Accoya cladding was chosen, in two complementary finishes made by Delta Millworks, the Texan charred wood specialist: facades in planed Accoya and in Accoya charred using the Japanese shou sugi ban technique. This contrast between pale wood and deep black charred wood underlines the clean volumes drawn by the Knoxville-based practice Sanders Pace Architects. The choice of Accoya gives the cladding exceptional dimensional stability and resistance to rot suited to the damp Appalachian climate, with minimal maintenance.
