The Harland, West Hollywood

The Harland is a thirty-seven unit condominium building in West Hollywood, California. The modernist structure offers wide balconies and restrained interiors, with a tight selection of materials used both outside and in.

The exterior cladding is Kebony Clear 90-degree shiplap, complemented by beams and terrace decking in the same material. This continuity of timber between facade and private outdoor space extends the living rooms visually onto the balconies and gives the building a warm materiality from the street and from the apartments alike.

Kebony modified wood, impregnated with a bio-based liquid, offers high durability and stability outdoors with no finish to reapply — an important consideration on a multi-family building where maintenance of shared external areas affects service charges.
