Timber deck on Monkey Mia beach in Australia

On Monkey Mia beach, 900 km north of Perth in Western Australia, extensive Accoya decks were installed at the end of 2021 in front of the famous bottlenose dolphin reserve. Accoya replaced the old wood-plastic composite (WPC) decks, which had become unusable: they heated up so much in the sun that visitors could no longer walk on them barefoot or sit on them. Accoya, which absorbs very little heat and stays cool even at the height of the southern summer, was the ideal solution for the boardwalk, the street furniture and the steps linking the various levels of the site. The approved distributor M&B supplied the decking boards, laid without any finish: the natural wood has already begun to weather, and photographs taken ten months after installation show the fine development of its silver tone in the extreme coastal climate.
