A young Toronto family asked North on Sixty to reimagine their back garden entirely, with a brief to capture the feeling of being up north.

The scheme carries that intention into the detail, from the suspended beaverstick chandelier to the granite stone waterfall. The Kebony Clear decking forms the base of the composition: it unifies the different zones of the garden and sets the dominant tone.

Kebony modified wood is produced by impregnating certified softwood with a bio-based liquid, a process that durably increases its density, dimensional stability and biological resistance. In Ontario's continental climate, with its repeated freeze-thaw cycles, that stability limits cupping and movement between boards. The structure needs no finish to reapply. Contractor: Yuill Built.
