Torvbråten School, Asker

Torvbråten School was completed in 2020 and named School Building of the Year in 2021. Set at the top of Østskogen in Asker, Norway, it accommodates 470 pupils. It is Norway's second Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified school, after the neighbouring Sydskogen school.

Both buildings were constructed without products containing substances hazardous to the environment or to human health, and both use Kebony Clear timber.

The building is designed around natural materials so as to sit well in its surroundings. The facade has soft forms and a strong architectural expression, structured by organic bands of Kebony Clear slats. These open battens serve several functions: integrated solar shading, acoustic damping and concealment of ventilation grilles, while giving the building its formal unity.
