Gramitherm

Gramitherm is a Belgian manufacturer of bio-based insulation made from grass fibres. Based in Auvelais, Belgium, the Gramitherm® technology was developed in 2006 by Stefan Grass, a Swiss agricultural engineer, in collaboration with EPFL in Lausanne. The intellectual property was acquired in 2013 by Christian Roggeman, who founded Clean Insulating Technologies SA in Lausanne to produce the first panels in Austria and then France, before the creation of Gramitherm Europe SA in 2019, which gave the brand its own production line in Auvelais. Gramitherm's core business is turning grass — a natural, abundant and previously unused resource — into bio-based insulation panels for building. The company manages the entire chain, from production to marketing, and supports its customers with logistics, technical installation training and design-office services. The range consists of the Gramitherm® insulation panel, available for internal and external wall insulation, floors, ceilings and partitions, lofts and roofs, as well as for acoustics. The company also markets a dedicated saw for cutting the panels and offers, in partnership with Ampack, complementary airtightness membranes. Gramitherm® is certified bio-based by the Walloon industry, holds a renewed European Technical Assessment (ETA-21/0260) and has received the “Efficient Solution” label from the Solar Impulse Foundation. The company claims more than 3,566 tonnes of CO2-equivalent captured through its sales since 2020.
