Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
African padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii), of the Leguminosae family, is a hardwood from tropical West Africa. Its bright orange red heartwood, known as coral, is highly characteristic. The grain is straight, sometimes slightly interlocked, and the texture medium coarse to coarse. The species works well, by hand as by machine; the irregular grain calls for attention, pre-drilling is necessary and gluing is good (poor for the padauk known as Salomo in exterior joinery). Very durable (class 1), it is used in interior and exterior woodwork, doors, furniture, counters, table tops, billiard tables, floors, mouldings, handles and grips. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, through an FSC® supply chain.
