Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Afzelia (Afzelia bipindensis), of the Leguminosae family, is reputed to be the best of the afzelias. This African hardwood stands out for its exceptional natural durability (class 1), its mechanical strength and its resistance to chemical agents. Its grain is generally interlocked and its texture medium coarse to coarse. As dry timber gives off a great deal of dust, good dust extraction is needed when machining; pre-drilling is indispensable and afzelia contains substances liable to react in contact with metals. It glues well. Stable and very durable, it suits exterior joinery, doors and windows, stairs, wood flooring, as well as exposed works. Callens African Woods sells it as hardwood sawn timber, within a range of tropical hardwoods under FSC® chain of custody.
