Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Bilinga (Nauclea diderrichii), of the Rubiaceae family, is a hardwood from tropical West Africa. Its heartwood, yellow to orange yellow, darkens towards orange red and golden brown; the pale sapwood, 30 to 50 mm wide, is clearly distinct from it. The grain is interlocked, sometimes wavy, and the texture coarse. Despite its hardness, it machines fairly well; the interlocked grain calls for care and pre-drilling is necessary. Gluing is good. Durable (class 1) and strong, it suits indoor and outdoor construction as well as hydraulic works: lock gates, mooring dolphins and exposed structural timbers. Callens African Woods sells it as hardwood sawn timber, within a range under FSC® chain of custody.
