Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Bossé (Guarea thompsonii), of the Meliaceae family, comes from tropical West Africa, mainly from Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Nigeria and Congo. Its colour and structure are close to those of the African mahoganies, whose uses it shares. The grain is straight, sometimes wavy or slightly interlocked, and the texture fine. The species works fairly easily, but its silica content (especially in Guarea cedrata) blunts tools; pre-drilling is sometimes necessary for screwing. Gluing is good. Of moderate durability (class 2), Bossé is used in furniture, joinery and interior fit-out. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, within an FSC®-certified range.
