What is a black wood panel? Definition 

A solid black wood panel is a building component made of black wood boards (usually oak, ash or walnut) glued together. Unlike black melamine chipboard, which is an engineered wood product, solid black wood panels are made from natural, unprocessed wood.

Solid black wood is obtained through several processes:

  • Naturally black species: some species, such as wenge or ebony, are naturally very dark or black,
  • Staining: wood can be stained black with specific products before or after the boards are assembled,
  • Charring: wood can undergo surface charring, which gives it a black colour.
