Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Iroko (Milicia excelsa), of the Moraceae family, is a hardwood from tropical Africa. Its heartwood, butter yellow to yellow brown, sometimes zoned with dark brown, darkens towards golden brown to deep brown. The grain is straight to interlocked and the texture medium coarse. The species works well by hand as by machine and blunts tools little; gluing is moderate but good with suitable adhesives, and pre-drilling is recommended. Durable (class 1-2) and stable, Iroko is much sought after for exterior joinery, furniture, worktops, wood flooring and exposed works, where it often serves as an alternative to teak. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, through an FSC® supply chain.
