Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Limba, also known as fraké (Terminalia superba), of the Combretaceae family, grows in tropical West Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola. Sapwood and heartwood differ little in colour; some logs show an irregular dark heart. The grain is straight to slightly wavy and the texture coarse. Easy to work by hand as by machine, it peels very well for veneer and glues well; sawing calls for care to avoid splintering. Of low natural durability (class 4), it is used mainly indoors: as veneered board for furniture, panelling and interior doors, and in solid form for fit-out. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, through an FSC® supply chain.
