Movingui (Distemonanthus benthamianus), of the Leguminosae family, comes from tropical West Africa. Its heartwood, light yellow to yellow brown, is barely distinct from a pale yellow sapwood of 20 to 30 mm; some logs show an attractive figure. The grain is irregular and interlocked, the texture fine to medium coarse. The species works well, but its constituents have a noticeable blunting effect when sawing; pre-drilling is recommended and gluing is good. Of durability class 3, it is used for furniture, veneer, turning, floors and wood flooring, vehicle bodywork, chemical industry tanks, construction and joinery. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, through an FSC® supply chain.
