Mukulungu Sawn Timber 1
Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)

Description

Mukulungu (Autranella congolensis), of the Sapotaceae family, comes from tropical West Africa, mainly from Congo and the former Zaire. Its heartwood, red to red brown with dark veining, has a satiny lustre and is clearly distinct from a sapwood of 20 to 30 mm. The grain is straight, sometimes interlocked, and the texture fine and even. With good mechanical properties, it machines fairly well despite its hardness; gluing is nevertheless poor and pre-drilling is necessary. Of durability class 1-2, it suits veneer and can serve as a substitute for makore as well as in joinery. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, within an FSC®-certified range.
