Niangon Sawn Timber 1
Sawn hardwood (boules & unedged boards)

Description

Niangon (Heritiera densiflora), of the Sterculiaceae family, comes from West Africa (Ghana, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Cameroon). Its heartwood ranges from pink to reddish brown and is barely distinct from a grey white sapwood of 30 to 60 mm. The grain is interlocked, sometimes wavy, and the texture medium coarse. The species works fairly easily by hand as by machine; its high resin content may hinder sawing, while gluing remains good with the usual precautions and screwing satisfactory despite a slight tendency to split. Of durability class 3, it is used in furniture, interior woodwork, wood flooring, windows, doors and boatbuilding. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, through an FSC® supply chain.
