Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Obeche, also known as ayous or abachi (Triplochiton scleroxylon), of the Sterculiaceae family, comes from tropical West Africa, mainly from Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana. A pale timber, whitish to cream yellow turning golden yellow in the light, it shows no clear difference between sapwood and heartwood. Its grain is straight to interlocked and its texture medium coarse to coarse. Light and very easy to work, by hand as by machine, it glues well. Its natural durability is low (class 5): it is intended for interior uses with no durability requirement, for furniture, panels and fit-out. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, within an FSC®-certified range.
