Okoumé Sawn Timber 1
Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)

Description

Okoumé (Aucoumea klaineana), of the Burseraceae family, comes from tropical West Africa, mainly from Gabon, Guinea and Congo. Its heartwood ranges from pinkish grey to russet brown depending on the soil; the grain is more or less cross-grained and the texture coarse to medium coarse. Soft, moderately strong, elastic and fairly difficult to split, it works well by hand as by machine and glues well; a grey blue staining may appear in contact with metals. Of low durability (class 4), it is mainly rotary-cut for the manufacture of veneer and plywood. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, within a range under FSC® chain of custody.
