The Shaper 1/8 in (3.175 mm) Collet with Nut completes the routing tooling for the Shaper Origin spindle. It clamps cutters of the matching shank diameter precisely and concentrically, which is what keeps run-out to a minimum and the surface finish even. It is designed specifically for the Shaper spindle (SM1 / SM-1) and is fitted using the tool-change accessories supplied with the machine. Regular cleaning of the inside of the collet is recommended, since a build-up of material reduces clamping efficiency and can throw the cutter out of alignment. The manufacturer advises against using adaptors or reducing sleeves to take cutters of a different shank size. An essential item for running a wide range of cutters on the Shaper Origin router.
