Hardwood lumber (boules & slabs)
Description
Utile (Entandrophragma utile), of the Meliaceae family, comes from West and Central Africa. Often of Ivorian origin, it shows a red brown, sometimes purplish, colour, distinct from a pinkish grey sapwood of 20 to 60 mm. The grain forms a fairly regular interlocking and the texture is medium coarse. Hand and machine working presents few difficulties except on cross grain; gluing is good, but a staining appears in contact with iron. Of durability class 2-3, Utile is used in solid form as well as in veneer and plywood for furniture, interior and exterior woodwork and joinery with a clear finish. Callens African Woods offers it as hardwood sawn timber, within an FSC®-certified range.
