Jet Import Lauwe

Jet Import is expanding with a multi-purpose building, the “barn”, and a new reception building, located on the existing site overlooking the Lys valley. Rather than moving to an anonymous industrial estate, the company opted for an extension that fits in with its surroundings both functionally and in the landscape.

The “barn” draws on the typology of an open barn and combines industrial and craft materials. The building rests on a basic concrete structure, while the timber walls and ceilings bring warmth and acoustic comfort. This combination of hard and soft materials provides a balanced transition between the industrial buildings and the surrounding landscape. The exposed structure serves directly as the finish, which avoids the use of superfluous materials and limits the ecological footprint.
