KEIM, from the invention of silicate paint to mineral finishes for wood The history of KEIM begins in Germany in 1878, when Adolf Wilhelm Keim patented a mineral paint based on potassium silicate and inorganic pigments. Since then, the company has been developing mineral paints and coatings for architecture, construction, and renovation. In 2013, after several years of development and testing, KEIM launched Lignosil, the first mineral composite coating designed to protect wood against weathering. The range has since been expanded with finishes meeting a variety of wood cladding, wood façade, and interior design projects. Today, the Lignosil range meets several needs of architects, industrial manufacturers, and application companies: Lignosil-Color, an opaque silicate paint for cladding and other suitable exterior wood elements. Combined with the Lignosil system primer, it ensures their protection against weathering. Lignosil-Verano, a mineral patina to give wooden façades the look of natural greying. Lignosil-Artis, a thin, decorative mineral coating that enhances the texture of the wood, particularly in workshop pre-treated cladding projects. Lignosil-Inco, an opaque or translucent mineral finish for wood and wood-based materials indoors. KEIM also manufactures mineral paints for façades, interiors, concrete and natural stone and brick, as well as plasters and mortars. Based in Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, near Lyon, KEIM France advises specifiers and building professionals in the selection and implementation of its systems. Its offering also includes training courses provided as part of its Qualiopi certification.
