WDE Maspell

WDE Maspell is an Italian manufacturer of vacuum wood-drying installations and thermal modification systems. Based in Narni, Umbria, the company traces its origins to research begun in 1962 in Turin by engineer Vincenzo Pagnozzi on vacuum wood drying, which led to a first patent. Now run by the third generation of the Pagnozzi family, it brings together the historic Maspell and W.D.E. (Wood Drying Engineering) entities, merged under the name WDE-Maspell in 1997. A French structure, Maspell France, was created in 1990. The company focuses its business on vacuum technology applied to wood, which it claims to have helped develop from its early days. It serves sawmills and processors as both manufacturer and consultant, and relies on a network of agents and licensees present across several continents. The company claims more than 5,000 installations in around fifty countries and more than 90 patents. The range includes vacuum press dryers, ventilation dryers, veneer dryers, as well as Thermo Vacuum thermal modification systems designed to change the durability, mechanical properties and color of wood. WDE Maspell presents its Thermo Vacuum process as eco-sustainable and has received the European Commission’s « Seal of Excellence » (2018 and 2019). The company also collaborates with several European universities.
