Description

Schedstar goes beyond load calculation: where planning places operations into time periods according to a priority rule, scheduling sets their exact sequence and assigns a named resource, a person or a machine. The module handles the individual calendars of machines, people and tooling, the versatility and efficiency of the operators, the bill of materials links and the orders in hand. The classic rules are covered: due date, priority, grouping, component availability, overlapping, inter-operation times and fewer tool changes. What sets it apart is an expert system with a natural language interface, typed or dictated, through which users describe their own business rules; the software then reproduces their reasoning with no manual rework. Rules can be made valid only between two dates, and a consistency test rules out contradictions. Training comes first, before users are able to write rules on their own.
