Oak Boule Brown Grade

Description

The Brown grade selects French oak boules and unedged boards, mostly PEFC certified, showing partial colouring of the timber. Cut from logs sawn into unedged boards then restacked into boules, the Grade QB1 and QB1b timbers are chosen for their brown colour: a localised or streaked colouring, in varied shades from white-brown to red-brown. The timber is offered green, air-dried under cover or kiln-dried, and stored on dried profiled stickers. Boules and unedged boards are strapped and identified by a barcode label. Highly distinctive, this grade is used in joinery, furniture and wood flooring, either left natural so that the colouring stands out, or under paint so that the characteristic grain of the oak shows through. Acceptance and grading are carried out green, with a minimum volume of 5 m³ per thickness.
