Accoya decking at the British Council School in Madrid

In Madrid, the British Council School is continuing its architectural transformation into a true campus with a spectacular covered double walkway, designed by the Madrid practice Trasbordo. The structure covers and shades the sports areas — a multi-sports court protected from rain and sun, an outdoor football and rugby pitch with sheltered stands — through 22 “H” arches combining glued laminated spruce with steel, repeated every 4 metres. For the decking, the architects specified 10 m³ of Accoya wood in 150×25 mm sections, distributed by Elaborados y Fabricados Gámiz. The wood was left unfinished to keep its natural colour. As well as its appearance, its durability and its dimensional stability, Accoya won them over with its environmental credentials: Cradle to Cradle certified, it received the C2C Platinum distinction for the health category.
