Accoya shutters to transform a home

At Manacor, on the island of Mallorca in the Balearics, this superb house designed by Brunet Arquitectes has been fitted with Accoya shutters that transform its facades. Made by Grup Orell, the shutters were produced from 5 m³ of Accoya distributed by Elaborados y Fabricados Gámiz, with a water-based varnish finish in a teak tone. Accoya was chosen for its consistent quality: unlike other timber shutters, it does not distort or swell noticeably despite exposure to the sun and the Mediterranean sea air. Grup Orell also chose this modified wood because it fits perfectly with the values of high quality, thermal insulation and energy efficiency that the company stands for. A residential project that marries the Mallorcan tradition of timber shutters with contemporary sustainable performance.
