Airfield visitor centre in Dublin

Accoya was selected to provide timber doors, brise-soleil and exterior cladding for several new facilities at Airfield, a popular urban attraction in south Dublin. This Victorian estate, which takes in the original Overend family house, the farm and the gardens, has benefited from major renovation and landscaping works. Led by Solearth Ecological Architecture, with Mike Haslam as lead architect, the project is a triple award winner: Best Cultural Building and Best Sustainable Building at the RIAI Awards, and Green Building of the Year at the Green Awards. Chosen for its superior durability, the way it keeps its natural good looks and its origin in sustainable softwood, Accoya cladding now clothes the restaurant, the shop and the educational and horticultural buildings. According to the architect, acetylation makes softwoods perform as well as, or better than, tropical hardwoods.
