American Riviera Bank branch, San Luis Obispo

American Riviera Bank is a community bank founded in 2006 in Santa Barbara, California, with the backing of around four hundred local shareholders. It offers a full range of lending and deposit services to businesses and consumers in its area.

The San Luis Obispo branch received a Kebony Character facade, using 61 x 48 mm slat profiles. Set out as open battens, the profile creates a regular vertical rhythm and a depth of shadow that give the building a contemporary reading, while partly filtering light on the glazed sections.

The Character grade retains visible knots, which softens the highly controlled setting-out. Kebony modified wood needs no finish to reapply and greys gradually outdoors. Contractor: Stalwork, Inc. Construction + Design.
