Amsterdam floating promenade

North of Amsterdam central station, in the former Oosterdok docklands, modified Accoya wood was chosen for the decking of a huge floating jetty 300 metres long and 7 metres wide. Designed by the creative engineering firm ipv Delft and built by the company De Boer & De Groot, the promenade opened in June 2017. After a comparative analysis with oak and black locust, Accoya won out for its dimensional stability, its long service life and its durability. Each deck board measures 145 x 35 mm; the boards were screwed to purlins connected to the anchorages of the concrete floats. Benches, also in Accoya, invite strollers to enjoy being close to the water. The jetty has considerably widened the public space on Oosterdokseiland and serves a floating restaurant via four gangways connected to the quay.
