Apeldoorn velodrome

For the track of the velodrome in the covered multi-sports complex at Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands, the practice SDA, a world specialist in velodrome design (Athens, Mexico City, Mallorca), chose Accoya modified wood. The key design criterion was the low risk of splinters, essential for the safety of track cyclists: the acetylation process of Accoya made it the ideal candidate. That suitability is attested by the performance of the velodrome in Tbilisi, Georgia, whose track is also in Accoya. The Apeldoorn track was previously in larch, but the humidity conditions of the complex had caused the boards to shrink. The dimensional stability, the ease of maintenance and the surface quality of Accoya prompted its replacement, and there is every reason to think new speed records will be set on this unique track.
