Architect-designed cabin on Islandberg

This architect-designed cabin sits on the island of Islandberg, in the heart of the Swedish coastal landscape, among cliffs and quiet coves. The project was designed by Björling Arkitektur.

The stated aim was to meet every need without building larger than necessary. The result is a compact dwelling in which every square metre is used, with no compromise on comfort or on the quality of the spaces. Reducing the footprint, physical and environmental, lowers cost and resource consumption while establishing a more direct relationship with the site.

Generous glazed sections let in daylight and bring the landscape into the interior; opening the sliding doors dissolves the boundary between inside and out. The facades are clad in Kebony Character, Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified and maintenance-free, whose visible knots suit the rocky setting. Photography: Kalle Sanner.
