Architect-designed home in Bois-le-Roi

This architect-designed home stands in Bois-le-Roi, in Seine-et-Marne, at the heart of the Fontainebleau forest. Its facade has been fully clad in Kebony Clear for two years; the smooth, knot-free boards are gradually taking on their characteristic silver-grey tone.

The architect couple who commissioned it chose the material for its environmental qualities, its durability and its appearance. They note that they did not know the brand at the outset and arrived at the solution after extensive research, on technical, aesthetic and environmental criteria alike. They present it as an alternative to tropical hardwoods, which sit less comfortably with their view of architecture.

The style is decidedly contemporary, in a wooded setting dominated by millstone houses; the timber cladding settles the building in without a break. Two profiles were used: 19 x 110 mm Clear cladding and 22 x 142 mm Clear decking. Photography: Kristian Alveo.
