Charred timber cladding in the Netherlands

For this fine private house in the Netherlands, the owners wanted a spectacular garage facade playing on two finishes of the same wood. The garage doors, made by Different Doors, are in bare Accoya with no coating at all, to reveal the natural tone of the acetylated wood. The garage volume itself is clad in Accoya charred using a traditional wood-burning technique — Accoya Marugame fixe from the Dutch specialist Zwarthout — creating a deep black, textured charred-wood effect. The contrast between the pale natural wood and the charcoal cladding sets off two surfaces that complement each other perfectly, and demonstrates the versatility of Accoya, which can take any finish or be left bare thanks to its inherent durability.
