Eagles Dream, Snæfellsnes

Eagles Dream is a secluded holiday residence on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in west Iceland. Designed by architect Gudmundur Jonsson, it offers an immersive experience of the landscape, with an open plan and long bay windows framing views of the water, greenery and peaks.

The concept came from the discovery of an eagle feather on site, echoed in a silhouette suggesting a bird poised to fly. To protect the environment, no blasting was carried out: the house rests on concrete columns that raise it and allow wildlife to pass beneath.

The cladding is Kebony Clear 75-degree shiplap. The modified wood was chosen for its durability and for its shift from deep brown to silver-grey, which gradually brings the building closer to the surrounding ridges. Inside, veneer-clad pine walls echo the exterior, while floors and bathroom walls are in Icelandic bluestone. Supply: EBSON.
