Green Ark pavilion, Meise Botanic Garden

Meise Botanic Garden in Belgium launched the Green Ark project for the conservation of endangered plants. The scheme includes renovating a 7,600 square metre greenhouse complex and building a hyperboloid pavilion in Kebony Clear modified wood.

Opened in May 2024, the facility houses more than ten thousand species across twenty-two greenhouses with independently regulated climates. It incorporates a rainwater recycling irrigation system and an energy-efficient design. The project is intended as a hub for conservation, research and education for the site's 240,000 annual visitors, focused on climate change and biodiversity.

The central dome is finished with rough sawn Kebony Clear shingles, in 25 x 125 mm boards. The project brings together several organisations and the Flemish Government. Design: NU Architectuur Atelier and Archipelago Architects. Contractors: Van Poppel and De Keyser Wood Industry.
