GREND micro-houses, Bø i Telemark

GREND is a group of five micro-houses in Bø, Telemark, Norway, right next to the Sommarland park. The buildings are hidden in a grove, out of sight from the road, among trees, paths and water.

The concept was developed by founder Aziz Chaer, around ideas of retreat, comfort, community and a direct relationship with nature.

The project also serves as student housing: students in the area, notably on sustainable management courses, can live there with hiking areas immediately outside the door. Seeing energy efficiency in practice adds an educational dimension for them and for other visitors.

The micro-houses are designed for a minimal footprint and combine local raw materials with low-impact materials, including Kebony Character modified wood used for the external decking.
