Hunter's Point South Park, Long Island City

Hunter's Point South is the second phase of a major waterfront project in Long Island City, Queens. Completed after a first stretch opened in 2013, it covers around 5.5 acres and brings the whole to some 11 acres of public green space, on a formerly derelict industrial edge.

The roughly one hundred million dollar programme includes bicycle paths, fitness equipment, a playground, picnic areas, timber seating, a kayak launch and a cantilevered platform some thirty feet up, open to the Manhattan skyline.

Kebony Clear modified wood was used for the boardwalk decking and for benches throughout the park. Design: SWA and Thomas Balsley & Associates in collaboration with Weiss/Manfredi.
