Impluvium

Impluvium is a large roof with a glued laminated timber structure set on the remains of a former market in Reinosa (Cantabria) demolished after a fire, designed by deAbajoGarcia (Carlos García Fernández and Begoña de Abajo Castrillo). The facade, inspired by the glazed galleries of local architecture, is made entirely of wood and glass: the chestnut lattice surrounding the building brings a warm touch and lets natural light through. The new cultural centre is conceived as a flexible, multi-purpose public space, whose community character is expressed through the transparency and openness of its facades.
