Innovative Accoya cladding on a residential building

The Lonzamatten residential building at Gampel, in the Swiss Valais, illustrates modern, sustainable architecture in an Alpine setting. Nearly 1,000 m² of cladding were installed on this project, including around 800 m² of facade in Accoya left unfinished and some 125 m² of external balustrades, also in Accoya. Initiated by the client Schnyder Immobilien of Leukerbad, the work was carried out by the joinery Troger Ernest & Söhne of Raron, with supply through Getaz Miauton AG of Visp and the partner Holzagentur Schweiz AG. Accoya was chosen for its extreme durability, its resistance to fungi and insects and the dimensional stability that minimises distortion and cracking, valuable qualities in Alpine climatic conditions. Certified Cradle to Cradle and guaranteed for 50 years as cladding, the untreated wood reveals its natural beauty and settles the building harmoniously into the mountain landscape.
