Kilsti Compact Lodge, Storfjord

Kilsti Compact Lodge sits on the steep mountainsides of the Storfjord in Sunnmøre, western Norway. It is a small cluster of architect-designed cabins in which a contemporary language meets the rugged coastal landscape. The project was developed by Omgi with Niels and Christian Haatuft, on the principle of compact architecture paired with high material quality.

Externally, the cabins are finished with Kebony Character cladding and decking. Using the same material for both gives the project a unified expression, highlighting the architecture while letting the buildings settle into their surroundings.

The Character grade offers a robust appearance suited to the coastal climate, and the timber greys naturally over the seasons. Two profiles were used: 28 x 120 mm decking and 21 x 98 mm 75-degree shiplap cladding. Photography: Omgi.
