Korsningen office building, Örebro

Korsningen is an office building near the central railway station in Örebro, Sweden, in a setting dominated by traffic arteries and concrete construction. The building houses the Örebro police.

It has been certified as Sweden's first zero-emission office building, and is also the city's first office building with a timber load-bearing structure. The project set itself a single objective: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the building's whole life cycle.

By building in timber rather than steel and concrete, client Castellum cut construction-phase emissions by around forty per cent compared with conventional solutions. That choice also allowed the structure to be left largely exposed, which gives the building its character. The facade is clad in Kebony Character. Design: Utopia Arkitekter.
