Newport Summit walkway, Irvine

Newport Summit is an office development in Irvine, California, made up of two buildings arranged around open plaza courtyards. The landscape design was conceived to make these outdoor spaces usable and attractive for occupants of both buildings.

A timber walkway links the two buildings across the courtyards. It is built in Kebony Clear decking boards on Step-Clip hidden fasteners, a system that leaves a continuous walking surface with no visible screw heads and no water traps.

Kebony modified wood was chosen for a workplace setting with sustained footfall: it resists moisture and ultraviolet light over the long term, needs no finish and retains grip when wet. It greys gradually, evening out the appearance of the walkway over time. Landscape design: Studio One Eleven.
