Niagara Parks heritage benches

The Niagara Parks in Ontario have a set of heritage benches whose timber components were entirely rebuilt by Toronto firm North on Sixty.

Historical accuracy was a firm requirement: profiles, sections and slat layout were reproduced exactly, so that the restored benches remain legible as heritage elements of the site. At the same time the work had to improve the furniture's service life, in a heavily visited location exposed to spray from the falls.

Kebony modified wood was selected to reconcile both aims. Its durability and dimensional stability, obtained by impregnation with a bio-based liquid, allow slender profiles to be reproduced without compromising longevity, and with no finish to reapply each season. Contractor: Yuill Built.
