Sørenga Seawater Pool, Oslo

The Sørenga seawater pool occupies the southern tip of the Bjørvika peninsula in central Oslo, facing Hovedøya, the fjord and the city skyline formed by the Opera House and the Barcode district. It has become a major destination within the city's network of public recreational spaces.

The land-based part includes a beach, a lawn, a timber ramp structure, the southern bastion and stepped terraces facing east. On the water, the scheme extends across a concrete floating platform 190 metres long and about 28 metres wide, weighing 4,650 tonnes with an area of some 3,700 square metres. It carries a swimming pool, a children's and accessible pool, and an open water basin between the beach and the deck.

The surface of the platform is entirely decked in Kebony modified wood. Furnishings are integrated into the structure wherever possible. Design: LPO Arkitekter.
